Construction will close Country Commons Park in Naperville until Spring 2013.

Submitted by the city of Naperville

Country Commons Park located near Huffman Street and North Avenue will be closed throughout the week to accommodate the final phase of the city of Naperville’s Steeple Run Watershed Project that includes the construction of a floodwall at the park.

The park, which is located at 919 School St., will be closed through spring 2013. Construction crews are scheduled to begin work on the reconstruction of the embankment, installation of a new floodwall and connection to the Huffman Street storm sewer system.

The floodwall will help fortify the existing embankment so that it will not be breeched by major floods and a connection to the Huffman Street storm sewer system will provide an underground outlet for storm water away from homes on Huffman Street.

Once the city’s floodwall and storm water improvements are complete, the Naperville Park District will reconstruct and consolidate a new playground, basketball court and parking lot along the west edge of the basin to replace the current aging facilities. The new park amenities are scheduled to be complete in 2013.

The Country Commons Floodwall is the final phase of the city’s multi-year efforts with DuPage County to address flooding in the Steeple Run Watershed. The Steeple Run Watershed Project included a series of separate storm and sewer improvements to minimize flooding in the area.
