Santa Claus

Welcome to Hey Mom and Dad—a weekly feature in which we ask our Facebook fans to share their views on parenting. Every week, we get the conversation started by taking a look back at a question we asked parents the week before on Patch Facebook pages from around the area.

This week's question is a little delicate, but no less important or worthy of discussion. Without going into too much detail for those wandering eyes:

What is the appropriate age to talk to your kids about Santa Claus?

Take a look at what people had to say and join the conversation in the comments section.

Melissa Murphy Thompson: Never. If you don't believe you don't receive. — Batavia Patch Facebook

Carly Weese: When they ask about it!! — Elmhurst Patch Facebook

Ray Schneider: I was able to wait until 5th grade for my son. — Geneva Patch Facebook

Michele Malkowski Small: My 2 youngest (9 and 11) still believe but sometimes I think it would be a lot easier if they didn't. I'm tired of hiding things - sometimes I don't remember what I hid or where. — Glen Ellyn Patch Facebook

Anne Chang Blaeske: My daughter started to wonder in second grade and I told her that Santa fills her stockings and mommy and daddy bought the gifts... then she looked at the bottom of a snowglobe that was in her stocking two years before... and realized mom forgot to take the price tag off... that was it for Santa... — Lisle Patch Facebook

Dianne Marsella: What? Santa Claus lives. Why ?? Children figure life out, no need to squash dreams. — Naperville Patch Facebook

Tracy Paddy: We met Santa one year in Northern Michigan. In actuality he was the Santa from Woodfield Mall, but he had a special North Pole shirt, took pictures with the kids and told them he was taking a vacation on Lake Huron. We saw him around town the rest of our visit and they thought they saw an aspect of Santa that was very unusual. They kept believing for years, even using the photos for evidence to disbelieving class mates. They were in middle school when the realized that we celebrate the spirit of Christmas, and that the man Santa is based on lived hundreds of years ago. — St. Charles Patch Facebook

Sue Stozek Mayeda: My kids still believe at 11 and 12. I'm that good, and when they ask, I'll let them know. Not until then. — Wheaton Patch Facebook
