A 17-year-old Aurora juvenile has been charged in connection with last week's residential burglary in southwest Naperville, police said.
Luis Joel Espinosa, of the 3000 block of Bar Harbour Road in Aurora, was arrested Friday and charged with two counts of residential burglary.
Naperville police said they responded to a call of a burglary in progress at 12:37 p.m. Friday in the 3500 block of Scottsdale Circle in Naperville’s White Eagle neighborhood.
Before officers arrived to the scene, police said a homeowner who saw the burglary chased and temporarily detained Espinosa as well as another unnamed juvenile. However, the homeowner could not contain the burglars long enough for police to arrive, according to reports.
After a description of the suspects was given by the witness, officers canvassed the area and notified the Aurora Police Department as well as the DuPage County Sheriff’s Police for K-9 assistance, police said.
Aurora police later found and detained Espinosa around 1:27 p.m. near Bar Harbour Road. The other suspect was also taken into custody on Schoger Road around 1:07 p.m., about 30 minutes after the call was dispatched.
Espinosa was transported to Will County Jail. As of Monday afternoon, officials did not know yet when his first court date would be.
