Name and Occupation: Angie Wood, executive director of Naperville Area Humane Society.
What are some of your responsibilities with the Naperville Area Humane Society?
As executive director I am responsible for providing the overall leadership and management for the Naperville Area Humane Society. This involves working with the board of directors, staff and volunteers to provide programs and services which help the pets and people of our community. Of course, it also means ensuring we have the necessary funding for these programs and services.
In your opinion, why is having an organization like the Naperville Area Humane Society important to the community?
Pets have become an integral part of people's lives and that means resources are necessary to address the needs of pets. NAHS has a variety of programs and services available to assist people who are seeking new pets, having issues with current pets or would just like to learn more about our four-legged family members. In addition, pets need people to be their advocates and ensure their safety and well-being. NAHS is proud to serve in this capacity.
What do you like most about working with the Naperville Area Humane Society and working with the community?
I am proud to be a part of the team at NAHS because it is an organization that strives to serve people and pets each day, assisting however we can and truly making a difference day-in and day-out. The community’s willingness to get engaged in our mission of helping pets and saving lives is amazing.
What are some key ways people can make a difference locally?
People can make a difference by choosing to adopt their next pet from NAHS (or any local shelter/rescue) rather than purchasing at pet store, by becoming a volunteer, or by supporting NAHS’ work through any of our fundraising efforts. Right now at NAHS we are working to expand our foster care program. This means we need more foster care volunteers. This would be an excellent way for people to make a difference for pets.
