That doughnut run just got a little sweeter. Customers who make a donation Friday get a free doughnut at two Naperville Dunkin’ Donut locations.
Friday morning at 5 a.m. the annual “Cop on a Rooftop” event kicks off. The event raises awareness and money for the Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics Illinois.
Officers will be staking out Dunkin’ Donuts rooftops at 129 stores throughout Chicagoland. Those Dunkin’ customers who make a donation to the Torch Run receive a coupon for a free donut. Dunkin’ Donuts will donate $10,000 to the cause. Special Olympics Illinois hopes to raise more than the $215,000 raised last year.
Naperville Park District Police will be staking out the roof of the Dunkin’ Donuts at Route 59 and Brookdale Road, according to the Naperville Park District. Early risers who stop by the shop between 5:30 and 10 a.m. will have the opportunity to see Eddie and Jobo broadcasting live for WJMK.
“This is a fun event, and a unique way that police officers can help support Special Olympics,” Park Police Chief Carl Schnibben said in a news release.
Along with the free donut offer, anyone making a donation of at least $10 will receive a special Law Enforcement Torch Run travel mug —while supplies last— and a coupon for free medium coffee, according to Dunkin’ Donuts.
The Naperville Park District Police will continue its fundraising efforts throughout the summer, selling hats, $15, tee shirts, $15, pins, $5 and raffle tickets for $10 with the chance to win a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Merchandise will be sold during the various events and also is available for purchase through the Naperville Park District, 320 W. Jackson Ave.
Two locations in Naperville are participating in the “Cop on a Rooftop” event. Those locations are: 811 E. Ogden Ave. and 1991 Brookdale Road.
