One man indicted in connection to several area robberies, including at least two in Naperville, has pleaded not guilty.
Travis Gamble, 22, of Oswego, is charged with multiple counts of armed robbery, aggravated robbery and kidnapping. Gamble and Josiah McCroskey are accused of working with a third man, Cory Paytes, on different robberies that stretch back over the last year, according to prosecutors.
A grand jury indicted the men earlier this month on multiple counts of armed robbery and kidnapping related to crimes stretching back more than a year.
Gamble and Paytes were arrested in Naperville in January when they tried to leave the Papa John’s on West Ogden Avenue after taking money. Police, at the time, suspected the men might be linked to other robberies.
The indictments allege Paytes participated in robberies dating back to January 2011, some with Gamble and some with McCroskey. Gamble is accused of working with Paytes on at least three occasions where they, while wearing masks, claimed to have a firearm and threatened to harm victims with the bludgeon, documents show. The kidnapping charges relate to the men “secretly confining” victims, according to the indictments.
Authorities previously said the pair put employees in a freezer during the Papa John’s robbery.
Gamble remains held in DuPage County Jail on $300,000 bail. He is charged with six counts each of armed robbery and aggravated robbery, as well as four counts of aggravated kidnapping. He returns to court March 27.
