Marilyn may have said it best when she said, diamonds are a girl's best friend. On Valentine’s Day a little bling would be well received, but not everyone is ready to drop dough on ice.
Diamonds may be a little too rich for even the best of gift givers, but other options are available, according to one downtown jewelry store.
At Costello Jewelry the store tries to cater to a wide variety of customers and have items for a variety of price points and niches, said Louise Byrom, a sales associate at the store.
Byrom offered a few gift ideas for those in varying degrees of relationships, whether just staring out dating or long-time married couples.
Dating
- Items that can be engraved are a nice option
- Earrings are also a safe choice and hoop earrings or pearl studs are basic wardrobe pieces that can be dressed up or down
- Diamond studs, which can be upgraded and traded up in size over time
Men
- Watches: If a man has one watch, he will have several and a watch is a safe choice.
Married couples
- Add another band to a setting
- Purchase a right-hand ring
- Consider a necklace with a heart capturing the Valentine’s Day spirit
- Custom items. With enough notice the store can make just about anything a customer might want
Ready to get engaged
The store sells engagement rings all the time, not just at Valentine’s Day. Customers may choose to start with a smaller stone and upgrade the center stone over time as salaries increase and the relationship grows.
