John Carbonaro, 34, of the 3S600 block of Melcher Avenue in Warrenville, was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

The judge overseeing a sex abuse case involving a former Naperville School District 203 counselor is looking over school district records to determine whether the documents are relevant to the case, as the man’s defense attorney has suggested.

John Carbonaro's attorney subpoenaed records for two District 203 students, one of whom is said by prosecutors to have been sexually abused by the former Naperville North High School counselor.

In January, Judge Blanche Fawell directed that Naperville School District 203 release the records of the students. Fawell said at that hearing the records needed to be sent to her for inspection before she would hand them over to anyone involved in the case. She also told the district to inform the girls' parents of their rights to inspect the information and to object to the records being shared with Carbonaro's attorney.

In February 2011, Carbonaro was charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse after a concerned parent alerted the principal at Naperville North High School about a relationship Carbonaro was having with a 16-year-old student. Carbonaro was a counselor at the school and also worked part-time at the Naperville Park District.

Prosecutors previously objected to the records being released on privacy grounds. The case returns to court on March 9, by which time Judge Blanche Fawell has said attorneys on both sides should file any pretrial motions.
