The Naperville Police Department issued more than 100 citations during a nighttime Cinco de Mayo enforcement campaign, including 51 citations for speeding.
As a result of the campaign, a total of 110 citations were issued from May 1 through May 5, according to the Naperville Police Department.
The emphasis of the enforcement campaign was to "locate, arrest and or ticket impaired drivers and seat belt violators," according to the police department.
Police said they deployed extra officers concentrated in certain areas, with a focus on finding those driving under the influence.
The results of the enforcement campaign included:
- 8 Driving while impaired arrests
- 1 Felony aggravated DUI arrest
- 4 No valid driver’s license
- 2 Driving with a suspended drivers license
- 2 Criminal arrests for unlawful possession of cannabis
- 2 Unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia
- 51 Speeding citations
- 11 Uninsured motor vehicle citations
- 5 Seatbelt violations
- 1 Illegal transportation of alcohol
- 9 Improper lane usage
- 12 Miscellaneous moving violations
- 11 Equipment/Registration violations
The police department along with the Illinois Department Division of Traffic Safety conducted this month's campaign.
