The appliance store, which opened a showroom in Villa Park 1938, has locations in Naperville, Geneva, Elmhurst, Addison and Northbrook.

“We just made a decision that now was a good time to close,” said Dale Plass, company president.

The announcement of the closure was made about a month ago, he said, adding he expects the stores to close in the next month or two. The company is advertising special liquidation sales with in-stock merchandise up to 30 percent off.

“We opened a location in Florida and will probably focus our energy there,” he said, adding the Florida location was doing well.

The company was founded in 1938 when brothers Art and Ed Plass opened the Villa Park showroom. When the pair went off to fight in WWII, the torch was passed to brother Walter Plass to run the company, according to the Plass Appliances website. Walter, along with his wife Eunice, eventually became the sole owners of the company. Upon Walter Plass’ retirement his sons Dale and Harold took over the company’s operations.

Many of the company’s employees have already lined up other jobs, he said, adding that Plass has helped its employees find work.

“We have a lot of good, loyal employees who have been with us for years,” he said.
