No changes will be made to the way Naperville elects its City Council members after residents voted in favor of keeping an at-large system Tuesday, according to unofficial tallies.

Voters approved a referendum question on the ballot asking whether to keep the city's current at-large election system, which was placed on the ballot by the citizens group Yes At Large.
If the referendum was not approved, the city would have adopted a hybrid system that included mixed district representation as well as an at-large system for some areas of the city.
Under the rejected system, five City Council members would have each represented a separate district and the community would elect the remaining three council members at-large, including the mayor.
At the November 2010 election, voters approved a referendum to divide the city of Naperville into districts, which would have been put into effect during the 2015 municipal election.
Yes At Large opposed the hybrid district system citing that residents at the time were not fully aware of how it would affect local government.
