Both the Naperville Marathon and Half Marathon completely sold out Monday, which was the first day for registration, Runner's World reports.
By 7 p.m. Monday, only 30 spots of the marathon's 3,500 were left. The Naperville Marathon will take place Nov. 10 and will be a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon.
Race organizer Bob Hackett told Runner's World that registration was nearly split in half, with 1,846 runners signing up for the half-marathon and 1,654 for the marathon.
After criticism, registration was cut to $105 for the marathon and $75 for the half marathon. Originally, registration fees were $150 for the 26.2-mile marathon and $115 for the 13.1-mile half marathon. However, the marathon's Facebook page was flooded with comments from runners who said prices were too high, especially for an inaugural race.
While the course is still being finalized, the marathon is set to start and finish south of the Riverwalk in downtown Naperville and will be run on roads and forest preserve trails in a large loop.
Race organizers are also looking for volunteers to serve as coordinators.
