Three dogs perished in a fire Wednesday afternoon, which caused $100,000 in damages to an apartment building in Naperville.

Naperville Fire Department responded to a fire alarm activated at 2:25 p.m. from the 1900 block of Carlsbad Circle yesterday afternoon. According to the Naperville Fire Department, 25 firefighters and ten pieces of equipment were brought to the 18-unit, two-story apartment complex.
The first unit arrived within three minutes and reported heavy smoke and flames rolling out of the first floor bedroom of the apartment complex, according to a release.
The fire was extinguished within ten minutes, but three dogs died of smoke inhalation during the blaze. One person was treated on the scene for minor medical issues. The resident was not home during the time of the fire, according to a release.
Crews remained on the scene for several hours after the fire was extinguished to check for fire extension as well as smoke and carbon monoxide in other units.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and the apartment was deemed uninhabitable by the city’s building department.
Estimated damage to the apartment building is around $100,000.
