Gusts up to 50 mph are possible today.

A wind advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. this Sunday evening, according to the National Weather Service. A wind advisory means that sustained winds of 30 to 39 mph or gusts between 45 and 57 mph are likely.

The following advisory was released at 2:46 p.m. Sunday:

"Southwest winds will continue at 25 to 35 mph with occasional gusts up to 45 mph this afternoon. A cold front will push across the area late this afternoon and early this evening, turning the winds out of the west. As the front passes, there could be a few gusts up to 50 mph for a short period of time. Wind gusts to 50 mph are also possible near thunderstorms. The winds are expected to abate this evening.

"Winds this strong can cause minor property damage and can be dangerous to high-profile vehicles. Motorists should be alert and use caution."

The advisory comes on the heels of a tornado warning on Sunday initially issued for Kane and Kendall counties, and later shifted to DuPage and Cook Counties before it expired.
